After you leave your employer
You will lose your eligibility for membership in the Health Insurance Society after you leave your employer. Join the appropriate medical care insurance system based on your needs and circumstances.
Return any cards and certificates when you leave your employer
Required documents:
Health insurance cards (for the insured person and all dependents, until December 1, 2025)
Elderly benefits card, Eligibility Verification Certificate, etc. (if issued)
Deadline:
Within five days after the date of loss of eligibility

Claim for old-age pension under the National Pension System and employee pensions

Pension booklet (insurance certificate)
Copy of family register (partial copy if no spouse or children)
Certificate of the insured of employment insurance (copy)
Deposit passbook
If you have a spouse and/or children
Certificate of residence
Certificate of nontaxation (or taxation)
If your spouse receives pension benefits

Soon after retirement if entitled to receive benefits

The pension office responsible for your place of employment at the time of retirement
Unemployment insurance

Unemployment slip
Required attachments:
Unemployment slip (1, 2)
Certificate of employment insurance of the insured
Certificate of residence (driver's license)
One photograph (3 cm high by 2.5 cm wide)
When to submit:
Soon after retirement
Submit completed documents to:
The Public Employment Security Office responsible for your place of residence
Income tax
Documents to submit:
Income tax return
Required attachments:
Withholding allowance certificate for salary income
Withholding allowance certificate for public pension benefits
Other certificates, as needed
Receipts (for deducting casualty losses, life insurance premiums, donations, medical costs, etc.)
When to submit:
February 16-March 15 during the year following the year in which you retired

The tax office responsible for your place of residence
Reemployment
With current employer
Your employee pension plan and health insurance will continue unchanged. Eligible persons aged 60 through 64 should submit to the person responsible at their employer an application for basic continuous employment benefits for the elderly under the unemployment insurance system.
With another employer
Obtain eligibility as an insured person under the employee pension plan and health insurance system (submit your pension booklet). Eligible persons aged 60 through 64 should submit an application for re-employment benefits for the elderly under the employment insurance system to the person responsible at their employer.

Required documents:
If you have dependents , "Notification of dependent(s)(transfer)" and "Documents that need to be attached for dependent certification".
Deadline:
Within 20 days after the date of loss of eligibility of the insured person
Applies to:
Insured persons who have been insured continuously for at least two months prior to leaving employment
