Physical exercise encouragement system

The Health Insurance Society provides various incentives and assistance funding to encourage physical exercise related activities of insured persons.
You can receive this benefit once each year (April 1 through March 31).
However, you cannot apply for physical exercise incentives for a remote area at the same time as walkathon assistance funding.

Physical exercise incentives for remote areas:
Outside the Kanto area (* applies to UTSS-RBJP):
up to 5,000 yen/person
Walkathon assistance funding (all establishments): 500 yen/person

Conditions of eligibility for events subject to physical exercise incentives for remote areas

  1. The event must be suitable as a health insurance society physical exercise-promoting event and likely to result in tangible benefits for participants.
  2. The type and details of the event are discretionary, but all policyholders must be treated on the basis of fairness.
  3. The event must not be organized solely for the purposes of enjoyment, nor be excessively extravagant, nor exceed the bounds of healthy recreation.
  4. Employee excursions, entertainment, training, and other activities are eligible for payment if they include activities recognized as physical exercise activities.

Conditions of eligibility for events subject to walkathon assistance funding

  1. The event must occur throughout the fiscal year or continuously within a specified period of time.
  2. It must allow all employees working at the establishment (excluding employees from other companies) to participate, regardless of employment mode or type.
  3. The event must be more than merely recreational. It must be recognized as effective in improving health and fostering exercise habits.
  4. While participation in the event is voluntary, it must be possible to ascertain event implementation and participation status.

How to apply

Complete an application form and submit it to the Health Insurance Society at least 20 days before the event. After checking the details of the application, the Health Insurance Society will contact the workplace and inform employees of whether approval has been given. If you change your event plan, please tell the Health Insurance Society at least 3 das before the event.

Payment of incentives

After the event is held, submit a report to the Health Insurance Society together with receipts covering all relevant expenses and photographs. The Health Insurance Society will then check that the event met the appropriate conditions before paying the incentive to the person responsible for organizing the event.
